  1. Craig,
We are reading with interest the daily reports about your journey. We are inspired by your spirit when we read that your thoughts of Jessica’s courage keep you going on the tough days.

We have been talking about your fundraising in our Peer Support sessions and the whole school will be skipping next week to raise money for cancer research. We hope the weather and road conditions are kind to you.
From class 5LL – Avalon Public School

  2. Keep up the amazing work Craig!!!!

  3. Hi Craig,

We love following your blogs, videos and pictures every day. What an amazing feat you are achieving. You are truly awe inspiring. Are you sure you are human!!!!! You are our very own “Super Hero”. Well done to the support crews for helping to keep your chin up during the tough times. You will have to work hard at the battle of the support crews – I am sure KT and Peta are menu planning (and perhaps consulting with Neil Perry) as we speak. Lots of Love and support Sue, Phil, Josh and Jake

  4. Hi Craig

You are an inspiration to all of us here at CCIA – we have been tracking your progress day-by-day and are just so proud of how well you are going! Loved the footage of you paddling with the dugongs – not so sure about the footage of you getting the muscle treatment!! We are all behind you Craig and are working hard to ensure as many people support you as possible because we so want to see you hit your target of $1 million.

    Best wishes

    Moira

  5. Craig,

Just wanted to say Hi, and let you know that not a day goes by that I haven’t logged in to see your progress, and reflected on what an amazing thing it is that you’re doing. You know how I feel about this, and my thoughts are with you all along the way. Stay strong and safe, and let’s hope that you reach and beat that target!

    Warmest wishes,

    Michelle.

  6. Thanks for your message of support. It sounds great what you are doing back at Avalon and I am still getting over the reception you all put on day one. Let me know which day you are doing the skip-athon and poerhaps I can do some skipping on the road and send it back on the blogg.
    Regards, craig

  7. Thanks Viktoria, I plan to do my best.

  8. Thanks Bell’s. Yeah have those bad ones. Just hit Gladestone and making plans to paddle north.

  9. Thanks for that. The days are starting to blend into one and other as time now passes by. We have just hit Gladestone and will continue north.

  10. Thanks Michelle, We are doing our best out here to represent the CCIA. As I said, we only have 3 mths to make the most. I am confident that we will exceed our aim after the coverage on Ch9 and 7.
    Cheers Craig

  11. A big hug is being sent your way from all the Mitchells. We are always suprised by your spirit and determination. If we all had a little bit of that, the world would be a better place. It must have been a shocker yesterday, because it is not in your character to sound so down. It is tough, a massive goal and an anormous journey – for all of us…. We are learning so much from you, in so many ways. You are inspiring, and if anyone can do it, it’s you. You can put that day aside, move on, charge on, come out fighting, and keep us laughing. Nobody can do it better than you! So here’s to a new day. This is all for a reason and I feel sure that people will see it, feel it and believe in it enough to part with their pennies and you will smash that goal. I must say as a final note – why are you cutting up your watermelon? What was the support crew doing then? All jokes aside, an amazing crew too, their time, and passion to help you achieve your goal is admirable. KT xx

  12. Hi Craig and the Crew,

You are all doing a fantastic job, love reading the daily blogs.

Keep safe, especially on the horrible Bruce Highway!

    Amber (CCIA)

  13. Thanks amber, Hopefully a full day paddling tomorrow and off the roads.

  14. Thanks KT, (sorry sent you someone elses response. Yeah had a shocker yesterday but feeling better today.
    xxx

  15. Thanks Amber, Hopefully a full day of paddling tomorrow before heading west.

  16. Hi Craig and the bundy boys

Hope today was a better day for you all particularly Craig – Kyles, Linda and I were thinking of you at 6am as we went for a run (yes I ran…) – it must have been about 3 degrees down here but nothing compared with what you are up for each and every day. Jess would be so proud of you so keep that in your mind during the hard times.

We are all watching your progress – Charlie just wants to keep looking at the photo of you and the Big Banana – not sure if he knows something we don’t !!!!

Keep up the good work guys for the last few days of your leg and looking forward to hearing all about Russ’ capability in the kitchen on the next leg. Will make sure he leaves with some bickies next week and will tape up the container tightly to ensure none go missing on the flight up !

Stay safe and know that everyone here is right behind you …..

Love Nicky, Geoff, Emma, Lucas and Charlie xxoo

  26. Thanks guys and thank you for letting dad come away to help us raise all this money. Dad was a bit scared of the crocodile today. Ha Ha

  27. Thanks Gabby for all your help. I know at the end of the day it is going to be worth it. I am also glad everyone is enjoying the bloggs. xx

  28. Thanks for the support. Another big day today which was shared with some croc’s.

  33. Thanks guys. Could of used Buster last night as there was a B&E at the hotel we stayed at around 1am.

  34. Hi Craig, Gosh after 195kms you look like I feel after only 10kms!!Good effort.
Jamie has a question- How do you have time and energy to answer emails after a hard day of work?
We are all enjoying reading your daily blog and following your progress
    You are amazing!
    Keep safe
Kylie, Geoff, Caity, Jaime, Molly and Lucy (oxox) xxx

  35. I can sit down and just use my fingers which is much more relaxing than riding 195kms. Hello to all and speak soon

  36. Ah,
My dear friend , you never cease to amaze me. Everyday I read your blogs and I laugh (sometimes shed a quiet tear). You always find the best in every given situation and in everyone you meet. Even the crocodiles would look at you in awe. You are an inspiration to everyone and our lives are all the better for it. Keep heading home. The kettle is always on
we all miss that contagious laugh and zest for life!
    Rell. oxox

  37. Thanks Rell, We have fallen into another grey nomad camp today which appears to have the whole Aust population of nomads. They have asked that we do a speech tomorrow as guests and we hope to raise abit of money here. There will probably be around 200 retired couples all enjoying life.
    Miss u. xxxxxx

  38. Hi Craig,I see Manly had a fluke win the other night, the Dragons had a good win, How is young Peter Carter going?I saw the photo,Thank’s. Say hi to everyone from me have a safe trip and don’t run into anymore crocks.Regards: Peter.

  39. Attention Goozzze

Forget big brother, we are keeping and eye on you.
You are doing a fantastic job and our support is behind you.
I have given up the beer till you get home, so come home soon.
Put a sail on the bike, an a talking parrot on your shoulder and
    god speed.

  40. Thanks Pete, Nice to meet you and your son was happy to see you as well. Manly is back and will be challenging the boys in red and white, don;t you worry. Have a safe trip.
    Regards Craig

  41. Hello mate, Glad to hear someone else is not having a beer until 27th aug.
    Cheers, craig

  42. Chocolate Chip biscuits made and dispatched Craig – don’t let Russ or Darryl (Sal tells me he won’t be able to keep his hands off them) tell you otherwise. They have been sealed to keep any roaming ‘support crew 2’ fingers off until they reach their destination but I am not sure I like your chances.
    Nic

  43. Thanks Nic but they have to survive 12 hours out of my care and I can’t see anything but crumbs when I arrive in Longreach tomorrow. xx

  44. GDay Craig
Its amazing how far you’ve got in such a short space of time. I bet the legs are getting a little weary. I’ve just watched a bit of footage from your web site and it looks fabulous. I’m not sure if it looks fun though?
Keep up the great work mate, its wonderful what you are doing
    Cheers
    Kearnsy

  45. Nice to hear from u Phil. Things are going extremely well. Very sore the first week but the old body is now starting to get into a pattern. Already some amazing experiences with croc’s, sharks, dugongs and other creatures. Just did 178km’s today and ready to have a rest this afternoon before doing a talk at the local caravan park tonight.
    Cheers Craig

  46. From Keira

Hi Craig, We love checking where you are each day on the map. I am going to help you by having a mini Movie night at my house with my friends and they are going to make donations to A2B4C. We are going to watch High School Musical 3 and have Pizza for dinner and for dessert an icecream buffet! We are all going to wear our Pjs. From Keirax

Hi Craig and Crew, Congrats on finishing the first leg!! Sounds like you’ve had a huge day and it’s not over yet.
Keira came up with her little fund raiser on her own and we put the challenge out there for other kids to come up with some other ways to help you reach your goal. Tyson is thinking of selling biscuits from a stall outside our place-the fact that there is no parking is a bit of a problem so we are still working on that idea-drivethrough?. Nice to see they are thinking about it.
Hope you are staying well, looking forward to seeing/hearing how this new crew takes care of you!!
    Lyndallx

  47. That all sounds fantastic guys and you are all helping so much. Very tired today as we just travelled 178km’s, but otherwise feeling well.
    xx to all.

  48. Hi Craig (and crew),

Please know that I and my family are thinking of you. You are a real inspiration, and it has been great to follow your progress after a pretty uninspiring day in parliament! I hope the weather is not getting you down too much. What you are doing really matters. It provides us mere mortals with hope that there are some wonderful people in the world doing incredible things for others, and it puts so much of what I see in parliament into perspective.

You are a real hero and an amazing father – a role model for me and for other young men. Your kids must be bursting with pride. Go well and go hard!!

    Rob

  49. Thanks Rob, Yes through all the hard effort during the day I am seeing not only some great landscapes of Australia, but more importantly, some true Australian pride. In the hardest of places, people are still prepared to reach into their pockets and help. Apeak soon.
    Regards Craig.

  50. Hi to Craig and the boys!

Just a quick note to say that i love the photo’s. Keep pushing on, we are all following you, talking about you, and doing what ever we can to get that koala to climb that tree. The masterchef has reached fatigue with so much pressure to perform she did a pretty silly thing! I stuck my finger in a hand held blender to wipe out some mashed potato and with the other hand – pressed the pulse button. Result – one mangled finger! So, after 3hrs at mona vale hospital emergency, I had my finger glued in many places. Lets hope it heals quickly because I am very excited about going across the Nullabor with you all.
    All the best,
    KT x

  51. Bugger. But I’m sure it’s going to bring the best masterchef out in you. The weather up here sounds way better than what you guys have down there. About 34 degrees this afternoon.
    xx

  52. 34 degrees. I just bought my thermals!

  53. You will need them back down the bottom end there, don’t u worry.

  54. Hi Craig And Crew

We are following day by day and loving it, wow the earth has turned red.
We all want to know what challenge have you set for this support crew??
Also how do you manage to look so dam good after the KM’s you’ve covered?
Your going Great guns, watch out for those Roo’s

    Cheers

  55. Dear Craig

We love you and miss you and know that this is a sad day. We are going to see Jess today and will give her some flowers and a card to say we miss her. She is an angle now.

We wish we could give you a hug but are thinking of you and will look after Claire, Blake, Kylie, Tim and Lisa.

We love watching you on the computer and can’t wait for you to get home. Dad is coming to see you soon.

    Love you so much… infinity.

  56. Hi Craig,

Just wanted to let you know that you, Lisa and your beautiful family are in our thoughts and prayers today as you have been all week.

    Take care,

    Ros, Tony and family.

  57. Hello Cutrie’s, Don’t worry about challenges for this crew as they haven’t shaved yet and my mankinni is still freshly washed and waiting for the first to shave. they also have a fine system and at the end of the time it is going into their 1000 club that they are going to start in July.
I don’t know about looking so good at the end of the day as I feel like sh##@.
Thanks for letting us have Darren for leg one, he was a gem.

  58. Thanks guys. I am missing my family as much as they are missing me. Thanks for letting dad come up to help. You will soon see him on the daily blogs.
    Luv craig

  59. Thanks Ros and Family. A sad day but hopefully after all this we will have a poositive outcome.
    Cheers Craig

  62. Thanks for the message and thoughts about Jess. It seems like yesterday that they were all still at primary together.

  63. Thanks Katha, You need to go back to school – two states and one territory. Ha Ha!!
    Love you, Craig

  64. Tough day for a wonderful cause and you are just fantastic so keep it up

  65. Hi uncle craig

we searched our house, money boxes and cars and got all our 5 cent pieces together and it came to $15. We are donating it to A2B4C. We challenge all kids to do the same. We hope it helps!

    Love you so much.

  66. HI Craig,
You, Lisa and the kids are in our thoughts today especially-a tough day for you all I’m sure. You amaze me how you turn your bad day into a positive one with shear determination.
We hope you get to see some of the State of Origin-on neutral ground!
Take Care, Love from Lyndall and Brendan and all the little Paines.

Oh we loved the 5 cent idea Kath-you could be onto a winner!

  67. Whoops- make that “sheer” determination!

  68. Hey Craig,

  70. Hey Craigy!!!

Hope today is a better day for you!!
Must have been hard not being with Lisa and the kids yesterday but just remember you have a massive family who are all looking after them!

You are doing such an awesome job!

    Love Bec

P.S Who is the pro photographer? You could sell some of those fantastic shots!! Another fundrasising idea perhaps?

  71. Appreciate your support.
    Regards, Craig

  72. that’s a lot of 5’s and it all counts. A big thank you

  73. All is well and I am glad we are out of maroon country. Looking forward to seeing you on leg 4a. xx

  74. Nice to hear from you Vanessa. Kids are so funny. In 2000 when I did the one across the country I got a letter from a kid and he addressed it “To the Cancer Man”. It makes me laugh thinking how things come out of their mouth. xx

  75. Thanks Linda. Hope your training for the half marathon is going well. Say G’day to bill from me also. xx

  76. I’m glad you sent a message Bec because I wanted to ring you and say what a great job you are doing with the 1000 club. I watch the 1000 club everyday and see what changes. I hope to see the enthusiam you express filter to others and encourage them to have a go like yourself.
    xx and big hugs

  77. […] some of the toughest moments on Craig’s journey so far, so we encourage everyone to keep sending Craig their messages of support via the blog as we know that this helps him to keep going and push through on these difficult […]

  78. Hi Craig,

We had your beautiful family over last night for dinner. So pleased to hear that they are coming to visit in SA. Even more special that it falls on Kylie’s bday. Blake and Claire were as gorgeous as ever, and Kylie is growing up so much. I thought I would test one of the dinner’s out on them. Big hit!
I am a little nervous about coming away now. I havent done much running since the half marathon, and I fear you may pull the tape measure out and give me a stern talking to. Hopefully we can squeeze a run in, each day to get me back on track. We are all so, so proud of you. A man of steel. I have kept your phone message on my mobile. It makes me laugh out loud. You have such an amazing way of making it all fun, even when it’s tough. Love KT xx

    Hi Craig,

I really hope you don’t get puffed out when you are going around Australia. Thank you for my card. It is very kind of you. I think my mum will do better than your cooking. Im not sure when you are going to come back. I miss you. Love Lili xx

  79. Well before you know it, you’ll be in Kalgoorlie and ready to head east. Thanks for looking after the family KT, it is so nice to have friends that help out when needed. I think your mum’s cooking will be better than mine as well Lily.
    Love Craig

  80. Hi Craig,

As Jen said, we are all working non stop to drive this baby home. It hurts so much when we see you so exhausted. We are knockin’ and a tappin’ and a ringin’ till you do!
You’re doing those hard yards, for an amazing cause. It’s people like you who make a difference, and you are making a substancial difference. A tremendous role model. You drive us to keep pushing too. To not take no for an answer, to search things out for another way round a frustrating route.
No doubt you are resting up now and will feel a little fresher in the morning. I’m looking forward to getting to Kalgoorlie but even more excited about having you back here on the 27th August.

    Sleep well.

    KT xx

  81. You are all dooing a fantastic job and looking forward to having you aboard.
    xx

  82. Hey Craigy!!

Seems like you have been having a hard week!!
You are on the home stretch now! And it won’t be long untill your back yelling at me to move my ass! Speaking of which…. the other night at training I said to Mick “You have got to watch me, i’m a cheat!, as soon as you turn your head i’ll stop doing the exercise” and do you know what he said? He said? “I know… Craig told me to watch you!” hmmmmm…..

Anyway we are all looking foward to watch you on TV this Sunday! The RSL is putting something on and we are all heading down. Fingers crossed the donations will come flooding in after people see what an amazing person you are. Make sure you get yourself to a tv!!

    Miss you lots
    Love Bec
    x

  83. Hi Bec, You better start to do get some serious training in as I will be meaner than before. Congrat’s on your 1000 club. I watch it eacdh day and have seen you slowly make your way up the ladder. Love to all.
    Craig

  84. hey sock,
i see that you are in good spirits (seemingly as always).
i’ve been off air the past week or so as Sarah gave birth last tuesday (bastille day 14 july) to our son, Edward Francis. everything is fine and they came home saturday. all systems are working well and he is pretty good on the tooth just like his dad.
he has the perfect life, eating, sleeping and sh%$#ing!
needless to say my cycling days have been put on hold for a while.
i’m not sure if you got a previous message i sent? i saw one from bonks and jd was going to send one but when i went back i couldn’t find the one from bonks. maybe it’s just me and computers.
some amazing scenery you have experienced if you’ve had the chance to take it all in. plus some fabulous messages of support. it must give you chills to receive such support from strangers and close friends alike?
i know you’ll have plenty of offers of riding companions on the melbourne to sydney stretch but if you’d like one more for at least part of the journey i’m sure i could get away for a day or so maybe towards the end. if not, we’ll catch up for a cold one anyway.
    stay safe.
love, happy, sarah, ruby, ed and emma the lab.

  85. Mate I am soooooo happy for you. That is great news and make sure you pass on my best to Sarah. I bet big sister is also looking after things at home with bubs. I am feeling good but anxious to hit the road again after having two days off waiting for a changeover in Kalgoorlie. The scenery has been awesome and the australian characters we come across will last forever in my memeory.
I have a few people talking about riding in the last day or so. Stay in touch and speak soon.
    Regards, Sock

  86. thanks mate. it was pretty awesome being there for the birth again. ruby was a bit unsure when she first saw him on the afternoon of his birth but she is slowly coming around and now wants to see “the baby”. i’m sure sometimes it is just a ploy to delay going to bed. she still hasn’t got a grasp on his name but it will come. it is amazing how small they are and how you can hold them in one hand even though he was just under 8 and a half pounds.
i bet adelaide can’t come quick enough to catch up with lisa and the kids. it will no doubt be a special two days with them when you arrive after being apart for so long.
still a mystery what happened to that other message i sent but no big deal it was just some words of encouragement and support from a mate.
the mad drummer was supposed to be in town this week but i haven’t heard from him which is unusual.
once you hit adelaide it should feel like the homeward stretch. i’ll try to catch up again before you hit the hume and see how you’re travelling.
    stay safe
    love
    happy

  87. keeping tabs on where you are Craig – all the best of wishes. Don’t imagine you’ll have any trouble getting to the finish line – I’ve seen you handle much tougher things than a marathon and admire you and your family greatly for that. Lots of love, Alice

  88. Thanks Scotty, I won’t say too much about how good having babies are otherwise Lisa will be wanting more – so don’t tell her. Again cpongrat’s and thanks again for the support.
    Sock

  89. Craig
It sounds magnificent where you are. That time of morning where it all comes to life is the best. Another bunch of mates of mine are climbing Kilimanjaro for the Humpty Dumpty Foundation and they have the same exhileration from the beauty of the landscape. I hope you are feeling well. I was at a function a fortnight ago and we raised $20k for your ride. It was at the Newport Arms. I bet you ccant wait to grab a beer from there whan you get home.
    Go hard mate
    Kearnsy

  90. Hey Kearnsy, The Rugby function sounded fantastic, as I e-mailed the Bayfields after hearing about the result. I love getting up before the sun and making the most of that part of the morning. I have some great memories and still have 22 days more of our magnificent country.
    Thanks mate, Craig

  91. Gooz
It can not be said enough what an inspiration you are!!!
May the road be smooth and the weather kind to you. I lookfoward to more inspiration to being a better me because of you and your journey. See you at home. Carm xxx

  92. Well Mr Goozee….we have been following the journey and thought it was time we sent you some words of inspiration to get you home…….ready … MOVE YOUR BUTT!! Come on old man you can do the last 22 days in 20 – with all this super equipment it is too easy!! Don’t let Lisa run with you – she’s too fast for you to keep up!! Lucky your kids are there to keep you in line now. Mathew said you gave him a high 5 when you ran past the school and he wasn’t going to wash his hand until you returned – I said you won’t have to wash it because it will fall off!!
Seriously we do think what you are doing is just amazing, you are an inspiration to us all and we send you our love. There is a buzz around the school and the kids are inspired by your amazing journey and the opportunity to share it with you.
Take care and I hope not to see your toes when you return!
love Bernie Graham Sarah and Mathewxxxx

  93. Thanks Carm’s. Nice to hear from you and all the best to you and Gary.
    Cheers Craig

  94. Hello there Euers, I knew you couldn’t resist throwing a few comments to put me down. I won’t go that low and just thank you for your nicer comments towards the end of your e-mail. Ha Ha – I will put sh@# on you later.
    Luv Craig

  95. Hi Craig,

    Firstly – Thank you!

I’m one of the many scientists at CCIA. I’ve been working on a new class of drug that may overcome chemoresistance blood cancer cells. And literally in the weeks which you have been paddling and sweating away, we have confirmed that the drug is effective in the laboratory, and we can move it into a clinical trial next.

Just thought you may want to know where all that sweat and pain went to! See you on Thursday.

I hope you have a smooth run towards home.

    Erwin

  96. Hey Buddy
I just read a reply from Erwin how awesome is that, you are being rewarded in the best possible way.
You will be the cheapest drunk in town on Sat after such a drought.I might stand next to you on Sat and you can feed me all those extra beers!!!
We are also contributing an additional $2500 which we will send to Erin.
    A token reward for finishing.
    Super effort mate.

  97. Hi Emtlee, That is fantastic. I know that what I am doing will benefit others some whee along the line. I hope that the clinical trials give you the same results.
    Craig

  98. Hey Mark, That’s fantastic. Yes – the news from Erwin is so positive and on day 89 it makes me realise what we are all doing is just so worth while. I have faith that some day we are going to be able to save children who are diagnosed with cancer in the future. Who knows how long “the future” is, and with this news it could be sooner than later.
See u Saturday night for a social drink.
    Thanks again, Craig

  99. Go Go Goozee!! Nearly home – we thought with all that tail wind and your own you will arrive in Sydney tonight!!
..looking forward to sharing Pizza with you and the family!!
You are an inspiration to us all and have achieved a superhuman feat, we send you and the family our love the Euersxxxx

  100. Hi Euers, It will be a great feeling at 12pm tomorrow. thanks for following the journey.
    Craig

  101. Hi Craig,

Almost there, and we are all very excited here at CCIA! I just want you (and everyone else who has worked or contributed to the fight against cancer) to know that you most likely have already saved people from cancer.

While it usually takes a long time for research to turn into a new effective drug, a lot of research reaches clinical trials, where a proportion of patients can benefit from the new agents, so lives are actually sometimes saved way before the new drug hits the shelf officially.

So, in the future, we may be able to cure ALL cancer, but in the meanwhile, small, inspirational battles are won.

    Erwin

  102. Thanks Erwin, That’s all I need to know to make me realise that all the pain, sweat and tears are worth it. It is going to be an emotional day tomorrow knowing that this is my last ultra marathon. I am totally happy as a 45 year old to have pushed for 92 days and finsih on such a positive note.
    See you all tomorrow.
    Regards, Craig
