Good to be home

Well isn’t it weird to be back home after three months on the road in the fantastic campervan from Sydney RV Centre.  As you saw earlier on the blog, we all got together on the first weekend back home and had a few quite drinks at the Newport Arms Hotel.  Since then, a group of friends and some of the support crew all came down to Brookvale Oval last Saturday night to help raise additional funds.  With the help of the Manly NRL team, I was interviewed on the field by Peter Peters while the support crew went around the crowd collecting donations.  It appears we raised around $9,000 from the collection with a crowd of 14,000 people.

Manly have since added to their support by having one of the great players donate himself to the cause for a day on Manly Beach.  Thanks Choc, this is much appreciated.

I have continued training to keep the body from shutting down and have gone back to Scenar Health for some recovery sessions.  We have still been busy with radio interviews and I will be live in the studio of 2KY/Sky Sports this Sunday between 8.30am -9am.

Our finale dinner that is fast approaching sold out in the first week and it looks like we are having about 400 guests to the function.  With money raised from this, and other donations still rolling in I am hoping to still climb towards the million dollar mark.  I will leave you this week with some additional footage not seen before on the blogs.

Cheers Craig

I can’t seem to put on those extra kilos

I am starting to feel the excitement build as Australia Square to Bennelong Point becomes ever so close. The last two weeks have seen my mobile phone and emails reach capacity with every crew member and friends helping and digging deep to gather all that is required.

I thought at one stage, the organisation of  this event would just fall into place, as it has been nine years since organising the last ultra-marathon. To all those involved, I salute you for your efforts behind the scenes, as things are powering along and no matter who we ask lately, we seem to have everyone’s support.

I am still not completely happy with my training as I can’t seem to put on those extra kilos that I want for the start. Yes, I hear a lot of you saying I can take your extra kilos, but sorry it just doesn’t work that way. Ha ha!!! I have had the last two days off training apart from some light weight work. Tomorrow I will head off on the bike at 4am for a 4-5 hour session which will also incorporate some paddling. The paddling side is starting to be very cold and the new skins and thermals are going to be pulled out from the boxes this week. My new Epic Ski is a dream although very different to what I have been paddling in the past.

At the moment we are collecting all the equipment for the trip which will be ready for loading Tuesday week. Our technical nerds are meeting today to program the laptop and start looking at making sure our photos and daily blogs are connected to our website without a worry. I ventured to the 1000 club site today and noticed that some have already reached their targets. Congrats to all! If you haven’t looked at this have a go and encourage yourself and other to get involved.

Cheers,
Craig
